Tony Dunn of Simplicity Works’ has had a varied career spanning 33 years.

Originally an electrician by trade, he worked in a variety of industries both as a construction and maintenance electrician. This included construction and operational phases at Fletcher International Exports Dubbo and several years in commercial construction in Newcastle. In 1992, he moved across into the mining industry at North Parkes Mines as a maintenance electrician, then Team Leader within the Ore Processing / Production Team. Although he had been exposed to various business improvement programs, it was here that he was first exposed to Lean.

In 2002 Tony left the mining industry to open his own retail business, Explore Outdoors, utilising Lean principles. Over the following eight years the business averaged 20% growth per year and employing 20 staff. The business drew the attention of national retailer BCF and Tony negotiated the sale of the business to BCF in 2009.

Tony then returned to North Parkes Mines (Rio Tinto) in 2010 as a Lean Advisor, also consulting to Peabody, Glencore and a number of small businesses.

In 2012 Tony purchased Darrell Wheeler Cycles in Dubbo and opened Wheeler Cycles in Bathurst, which continue to operate utilising Lean principles. In 2015 Wheeler Cycles received Trek Store of the Year.

Tony’s real passion is people and business culture and he believes that to achieve a successful workplace culture within your business you need your staff to be engaged and accountable.
